Divine Corrections: In the Body's Waning Sleep
Unique Work
DATE: 07/2024
SIZE: 167 cm x 82 cm
MEDIUM: Sand, Cardboard, Paper, Textile, Wood, Tree Bark, Wires, Glue and Acrylic paint.
In the body's waning sleep, the breath grows shallow, like a tide receding from the shore. The pulse, once a steady drumbeat, fades to a faint, stuttering rhythm. The limbs, once vibrant with life, grow heavy and still, as if weighed down by an unseen force. The senses, once sharp and acute, grow dull and muted, like candles flickering in the wind.
The body, once a vessel of vitality, now succumbs to the pull of the void, slipping deeper into the darkness of an eternal slumber. Yet, even in this final, fleeting moment, there may be a glimmer of peace, a quiet acceptance of the inevitable. For in the body's waning sleep, the spirit finds its release, ascending to realms beyond the mortal coil.
Crafted from humble materials, the sculpture "Divine Corrections" stands as a testament to the human experience. Its frame of weathered cardboard, the coarse Burk, the scattered grains of sand, The fabric beneath the bark, and the delicate wires that embrace its form – all these elements converge to create a work of art that transcends the physical and speaks to the very depths of the soul. Within this intricate composition, the whispers of a departing soul are heard, sharing its intimate story as it prepares to leave the earthly realm...©

While sitting in silence, reflecting on my life from my birth in the rural village of Setlagole, South Africa, to this moment of contemplation in Fagagna, Italy, it feels like everything happened just yesterday. It feels as if time never existed and something carried, protected, and nurtured me
through all the spaces, experiences, temptations, and forces that could have prevented me from reaching this moment and space of creativity.
The three wired hands I see in my mind express sensations of entanglement, bondage, agony and entrapment; the painting however moves away from the crude suffering evoked by these images
by proposing a reality that transcends mere feelings of subjection and slavery.....©
